Now that we made it past December 21st and the earth did not come to an end, and Christmas is over, it’s time to develop the plan for an outdoor shed.  Whether you need more space for lawn tools, a workshop, or just a place for an office, making an attractive shed can really add to your curb appeal.  A shed can increase the value of your property as well as provide needed work space.  Want get some quick ideas on sheds? Check out these on Houzz. Keep up with the ones you like and that will fit into your yard. When adding a shed to the yard consider this: 1. Functionality: what is the shed going to be used for? Large equipment, workshop, storage, pool house, or maybe an office. Knowing what you are going to use it for will help determine the size and style of the shed. Thinking about how much light is desired, door sizes, and roof lines are all parts of the discovery process. Whether it is a place for large equipment with large doors and an access ramp, or potting shed with multi windows, know what you plan to use it for first. 2. Purchasing a shed can be a quick and affordable way to get that instant usable shed space. Most companies make it easy and can have the shed delivered fairly quickly. You might consider adding your own touches to the shed to doll it up to add your own personal flavor. You can do this by painting it, adding more windows, or even attaching your own front porch. I salvaged an old shed once that had no personality. Over time, I added a front porch, four windows, and even running water.  It became a great potting shed for my wife. 3. Building your own shed allows you full say on where the window go and much more, but expect to pay more for having a custom built shed. I’ve had fun over the years building a few sheds and adding my own personal touch.  Once the shell of the shed is finished, it is enjoyable to slowly add elements over time as budget allows.
8 x 16’ shed my Dad and I built years ago. The roof line, trim, color matched the house that added additional charm.
4. Don’t underestimate the value that your small shed will bring when you sell your home. Not only do the experts say this, but I experienced it when I sold my last house. I added a simple tool/potting soil shed along our back fence line. I built this with scrap wood left over from my fence project and  stained it the same color as the fence for unity.
Shed size is approximately 2 x 7’. It is made of scrap wood left over from the fence. Great way to hide potting soil, tools and extra pots.
